Air Canada is preparing to enhance its in-flight dining service by introducing a ‘Book the Cook’ option for its international business class passengers. The concept, already employed by Star Alliance partners Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways, allows passengers to select their preferred meal from a wider array of options prior to their flight.
Naturally, this can be seen as an extension of the carrier’s “Culinary Programme“, but in doing so, other carriers have taken a more literal approach and have Flying Chefs.
Air Canada’s ‘Book the Cook’
Currently, Air Canada offers a pre-selection of meals on some routes, limited to the in-flight menu. The new ‘Book the Cook’ service intends to broaden this offering by giving business class passengers the opportunity to select their meal from an extended menu well ahead of their flight.
This initiative, similar to the services provided by Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways, adds a personalised touch to the in-flight dining experience.
Where and When?
The service is set to be initially rolled out from Air Canada’s main hubs in Vancouver (YVR), Toronto Pearson (YYZ), and Montreal (YUL). It’s estimated that the full rollout across all international business-class flights will take around 18 months.
Elevating the Standard
The ‘Book the Cook’ service aligns with Air Canada’s ongoing efforts to improve the passenger experience. Other initiatives include priority lanes for Super Elite members at several Maple Leaf Lounges and the reintroduction of the Porsche chauffeur service at Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and its debut in Vancouver (YVR) for select international business class passengers.
Conclusion
With the introduction of the ‘Book the Cook’ service, Air Canada reinforces its dedication to enhancing the in-flight experience for its passengers. This effort, alongside other service improvements, continues to position Air Canada as a strong contender among global airlines in terms of in-flight service.
