American AAdvantage has come up with Loyalty Choice Rewards – a form of giving back to those who show their unwavering loyalty to the airline and fly at least 30 eligible flight segments over the course of a membership year.

unsurprisingly, it ties in with the new AAdvantage Loyalty Programme, where Loyalty Points determine your level of engagement with American Airlines.

First unveiled back in October, American is completely revamping its elite status programme. You’ll no longer earn elite-qualifying miles, dollars and segments towards status.

With these changes, status is no longer earned based on how many miles you fly or how much you spend, rather, it’s based on how many Loyalty Points you earn.

What Are American Loyalty Choice Rewards?

In general, every dollar you spend is at least worth 1 Loyalty Point, and the vast majority of purchases earn far more points per dollar.

American AAdvantage has Loyalty Choice Rewards exclusively for those who fly at least 30 eligible flight segments over the course of a membership year. These Loyalty Choice Rewards give you access to some of the most valuable elite perks, like systemwide upgrades and more.

There are currently 20 choices that range from retail items (Bang & Olufsen products), AAdvantage Miles, Gifting Status, Systemwide Upgrades, and charitable donations.

American’s 2022 Loyalty Choice Rewards

In 2022, American AAdvantage will offer five tiers of Loyalty Choice Rewards:

Reward levelLoyalty Points required
(plus a minimum of 30 eligible flight segments)
Number of choices
1125,0001
2200,0002
3350,0002
4550,0002
5750,0002

A few things to note when it comes to selecting Loyalty Choice Rewards:

  • For thresholds with multiple selections, you can choose the same reward twice, or two different rewards (except where it’s specifically noted that a selection required two choices)
  • The 30 qualifying segments you need to earn include segments on American or a qualifying partner airline; American Airlines marketed award flights even count toward the requirement. This is better than, say British Airways, where you have to fly on their planes to qualify.
  • Once you qualify for Loyalty Choice Rewards, you’ll have until March 31, of the following year to make your selection
  • Should you wish to choose an Admirals Club membership, you may only do so once per membership year – all other rewards can be selected more than once.
