Emirates, the Dubai based flag carrier of the UAE has a global student discount program that may be of interest to students.
While this is nothing new, other airlines also have set out student programs of different complexities, it’s just Emirates (and like its counterpart Etihad) are pretty simple to make use of.
What’s On Offer
For Emirates’ main program, Whether it is to travel between home and school, or to see more of the world with friends during school breaks throughout the year, student travellers can enjoy special discounts off Economy and Business class fares, additional baggage on top of Emirates’ generous standard allowance – although caveats to all of this apply.
The airline used to offer complimentary changes up to 7 days before departure – that’s what their press release said – but the wording has disappeared on its main page either as a result of Covid or the fact the carrier wants people to go by the fare rules instead
In addition, family and companions can also enjoy the offer, as long as they are accompanied by the student on one of the trip sectors.
You’ll just be asked to present a valid student ID on the day of your trip.
All that is required is a simple promo code to be applied at the time – the code can be found here – and you need to book via a specific student page
On the other hand, there is a similar side program should you have an ISIC card, but even then you would still be required to book through Emirates.com.
Main Terms
The program is applicable if:
- Applicable for full-time students aged 18-31 years
- Valid on one-way and return journeys on Emirates-operated flights
- Students must present valid student identification (ID card or university acceptance letter) at the airport check-in counter on day of departure.
- This offer is valid for travel for 12 months for Flex and Flex Plus fares and 6 months for Saver fares.
- Extra 10kg allowance or 1 extra piece of baggage (whichever applies) in addition to the standard baggage allowances for your flight, excluding any promotional allowances included in your itinerary.
- Free date change for Flex and Flex Plus fares and USD 50 for Saver fares. Additional charges will apply in case of no‑show. Cancellations charges may apply.
Can a twelve year old school student benefit from this offer?
Unfortunately not, the programme is only open to 18+
Does an NUS / Totum card count as valid student ID?
it would not unfortunately – you would need to produce an ID issued by the Uni or your Uni acceptance letter
