Like rival Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines allows senior citizens over the age of 60 (and persons with disabilities) to get a discount on domestic flights.
What discounts are on offer
There is a 20% discount on domestic flights which naturally is in line with the Philippines Civil Aeronautics Board directive on providing discounts to senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
Internationally the discounts are pretty much non-existent, the 20% discount does not apply, with the carrier going as far as to only provide assistance at the airport and special meals (such as soft or pre-cut meals) in the air.
Discounts are only applied on purchasing a regular fare ticket meaning Economy Value, Economy Flex, Premium Economy, Business Value and Business Flex Fares. They do not apply to promotional tickets in any way.
For special medical supplies and equipment such as oxygen tanks including oxygen fare and stretcher fare provided onboard the aircraft, senior citizens are entitled to 20% discount and exemption from VAT. On a side note – You can also request special assistance by submitting a Disability Assistance Form at least 48 hours before your flight.
VAT exemption is applicable to Domestic Fares only and senior citizens can, in some cases, apply the discount to a ticket re-issuance.
Philippine Airlines senior citizens discount is NOT entitled to 20% discount and exemption from VAT on the following Philippine Airlines’ services:
- Excess baggage
- Cargo and cargo related fees/penalties
- Taxes, penalties and fees (e.g. aviation security fee, terminal fee, ticket extension fee, rebooking fee, rush processing fee, non-user’s fee, buy miles, transfer miles, reinstatement of expired miles, sports plus subscription)
- Tickets claimed as prize or reward
- Other non-fare related transactions
Requirements To Get A Discount
To avail of the discount/exemption, passengers can book through any channel ie. website, mobile app, PAL Ticket Offices, Reservations Hotline or any of our accredited travel agencies to apply the discount.
Discounts and exemptions ONLY apply to resident Filipino citizens who are at least 60 years of age at the time of purchasing a ticket as per the Philippine Airlines Website.
At The Airport
A senior citizen MUST bring at the airport check-in counter an OSCA (Office of Senior Citizens Affairs) ID in combination with any of the following: i.) Philippine passport; OR ii) Any government-issued ID indicating DOB
Failure to present the required IDs, you may be required to pay the 20% discount and VAT plus a fine of Php1,500.00, or risk the forfeiture of your ticket (per CAB Resolution No. 41)
According to FilipiKnow air carriers are required to designate at least one check-in counter which will prioritize senior citizens and one person can accompany a senior citizen at the designated check-in counter.
I booked a discounted Business class domestic ticket as a Senior citizen.
Will I have the same full services as a Regular Business Class passenger?
Access to Lounge, priority boarding, etc?
as far as i know, PH does not offer a business light product which means you will get all the benefits of traditional business class
