Lufthansa is enhancing First Class travel with an exclusive loungewear collection, designed in collaboration with renowned Japanese artist Sho Shibuya. From February 2025, passengers flying in Allegris First Class suites between Munich and New York (JFK) will experience an artistic interpretation of the sky in the form of bespoke loungewear.
Shibuya, celebrated for his signature colour gradient paintings, drew inspiration from a moment familiar to all air travellers—the ever-changing hues of the sky viewed from an aircraft window. The design, transitioning seamlessly from deep blue to azure and white, mirrors the shifting tones at altitude. This exclusive pattern has been meticulously crafted by Copenhagen-based homewear brand Tekla, renowned for its minimalist yet high-quality approach to textiles.
Wearable Art: Lufthansa’s Exclusive Loungewear
Designed for both comfort and sophistication, Lufthansa’s premium loungewear is crafted from organic cotton satin, ensuring a sumptuous yet breathable feel. Available exclusively to Allegris First Class passengers, these garments add a touch of exclusivity and prestige to the in-flight experience.
Sho Shibuya, whose works have been exhibited at Triennale Milano and the MoMu Fashion Museum in Antwerp, is no stranger to blending art with everyday experiences. His iconic New York Times front-page artworks, where he overlays serene gradients on news headlines, highlight the contrast between nature’s beauty and global events. Lufthansa’s partnership with Shibuya brings this philosophy of balance and tranquillity to the skies, ensuring elevated comfort at 35,000 feet.
The Allegris First Class Revolution
Lufthansa’s Allegris First Class, first announced in 2022, aims to redefine luxury air travel. Each aircraft will feature just two ultra-private suites, alongside the globally unique Suite Plus, a concept designed to provide an unparalleled level of exclusivity. Key features include:
- Near-ceiling-high walls and lockable sliding doors for optimal privacy.
- Almost one-metre-wide seats, with temperature-controlled settings for personalised comfort.
- A personal wardrobe, ambient lighting, and an expansive in-flight entertainment screen.
Despite previous delays, Lufthansa is set to debut its first Allegris First Class suites in late 2024, marking a new era in premium aviation.
Pushing the Boundaries of Luxury Travel
By incorporating Sho Shibuya’s artistry into its First Class experience, Lufthansa is setting a new precedent in luxury air travel. This collaboration aligns with a broader industry trend, where premium airlines leverage designer partnerships and exclusive in-flight experiences to attract discerning travellers. Similar initiatives by Emirates and Qatar Airways, featuring high-fashion sleepwear and luxury amenities, demonstrate the growing emphasis on bespoke comfort in First Class travel.
For passengers flying between Munich and New York, this initiative ensures that First Class is not just about comfort, but about curating an unforgettable experience. Blending art, exclusivity, and innovation, Lufthansa continues to push the envelope of luxury aviation, ensuring that flying First Class is an experience as inspiring as the destinations themselves.
